17-4 PH VAR AMS 5622 Stainless Steel is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel. Typical use is seen in applications requiring high strength and a modest level of corrosion resistance. Strength and toughness desired can be manipulated by a temperate range in the heat treatment process. Standard specification is AMS 5622 and AMS 5643.
Bars shall be solution heat treated in accordance with AMS-H-6875 by heating to 1900 °F ± 25 °F (1038 °C ± 14 °C), holding a heat for a time commensurate with section thickness and cooling as required to below 90°F (32 °C).
In the solution heat treated condition the hardness of the bars shall not exceed 363 HB.
