17-4PH VAR AMS 5622

17-4 PH VAR (AMS 5622) Stainless Steel is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel. Typical use is seen in applications requiring high strength and a modest level of corrosion resistance. Strength and toughness desired can be manipulated by a temperate range in the heat treatment process. Standard specification is AMS 5622 and AMS 5643.

  • GE S-400 (S-SPEC-35)

Industry Trade Names:

  • Type 630
  • UNS S17400

Common Applications:

  • Aircraft
  • Gas turbines
  • Chemical processing equipment
  • Nuclear reactors

Bars shall be solution heat treated in accordance with AMS-H-6875 by heating to 1900 °F ± 25 °F (1038 °C  ± 14 °C), holding a heat for a time commensurate with section thickness and cooling as required to below 90°F (32 °C).

In the solution heat treated condition the hardness of the bars shall not exceed 363 HB.

Products 8” diameter and less shall meet the following microstructure requirements:
